Motel Crawl Space Dry-Out
Challenge
Over several years a tight crawl space with limited access in a commercial motel was flooded by spring snow run-off water. The moisture was contained in the soil base, the concrete foundation walls and the floor above. The owners were concerned about moisture causing a variety of issues including structural impacts, air quality, and odors within the motel.
Objectives
- Overcome the challenge of removing moisture quickly and effectively within
- the difficult to access confined crawl space
- Keep set-up and take down of equipment to a minimum
- Minimize activity and exposure in the confined moist areas
- Prevent further distribution of the soiled air in any other area of the motel
Solution
The Restoration Contractor worked with ICS Group Rapid-Dry service team to design, configure and provide services to dry out the crawl space. Portable indirect hydronic climate control equipment was utilized to prevent additional moisture from being added, eliminate risk of fire, provide the required air flow and temperature control to maximize drying efficiency within the area.
Result
- Decreased structural damages by successfully reducing moisture to the specified targeted levels within a few days
- Improved air quality and prevented revenue loss from motel operations
- By reducing moisture damage, the Restoration Contractor was then able to minimize additional insurance claims
